Hmmn... the chemical processes involved can be. For example, one can experience a feeling of euphoria or happiness as a consequence of serotonin levels and endorphines. However, although this describes the process, and indicates that it is a good thing, it cannot define happiness. It can say it is positive and how it is that it comes about, but to actually describe the emotion? No, I don't believe this can be explained scientifically. One would have to experience it to understand it. This is why Artifical Intelligence cannot be taught emotion.

Happiness:
1- state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy
2- emotions experienced when in a state of well-being

Can science give us 'contentment'? Can drugs truly give us 'intense joy'? When emotions is creating scientifically, that is when happiness can be defined scientifically.

Nope. Serotonin is indeed a mood neurotransmitter that promotes the feeling of happiness, but only for brief periods of time. If you seek for ever lasting happiness, try the teachings of Dalai Lama. His way of thinking is suprisingly similar to approaches of psychology which focus on positive qualities and inner happiness. one example of these approaches is the Humanistic.
