both, but I would say lyrical because its harder to learn if you werent born with it.

Both are art forms that require proper technique from a qualified teacher. Tap is generally easier to master.
I would have to say that Tap is easier but was boring for me. Lyrical is actually an art form that is a combination of Ballet and Modern. Lyrical classes when they began being popular, were only offered to advance ballet students, because it is an art form that was allowing more free movements and self expression. You should have a strong technically correct background in ballet before taking lyrical. Then and only then, is it fun, beautiful, and brings out creativity.
Ballet is the mother of all dance. Tap is an art form that has also been here for centuries. A good Tap instructor always gives a ballet barre warm-up to start class-same as jazz, etc. Tap has steps and combinations that have been passed on for years. Some types of dance come easier than others depending on natural ability.
Improperly trained dancers and teachers will usually say that lyrical is easier because it has been allowed to be a lazy way out of not taking ballet and having horrible technique.

I agree with Heather L. I think Tap might be a little more complicated for some just because getting the timing and syncopation down might be difficult for some. It has been my experience that when you make a mistake in Tap, it's VERY noticeable. It'd be easier to fudge that mistake in a lyrical performance, not that I think fudging is appropriate in any style of dance, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. I think the best lyrical performers have fantastic technique and really versatile training experience. So for that reason, I could see where lyrical dance could be considered difficult too...

You cant really ask other people because then it would be based on opinion not fact and they are such different styless of dance that they cant honestly be compared. The best thing to do would be for you to try both if you cant take both of them in one year you could sign up for tap one year and lyrical the next and decide see for me lyrical was more hard because the old studios i were at were not ballet base so i didnt have that experience and skill as much as the girls at my new studio. So honestly it depends on what experience byouve had in the past an the amount of skill you have with ballet and tap.So since lyrical was ballet based ,for me it was harder.

I have been doing lots of types of dance for about 6 years and my beliefe is that lyrical is harder because you need to really have a connection with the music and yourself however with tap as you advance you need strong feet

In my opinion Tap is harder because if you mess up you can not only see it, but hear it. And it's much harder on the knees too.
Lyrical is ballet based, which is slightly easier when you have previous dance training.
