Your roommate should pay the majority for the light bill! She should be responsible for her kids, and she should pay for her kids! That would be so unfair if you and your roommate just divided the bill in half!

Okay. You, your roommate, and your roommate's 4 kids share a room, right? That would make 6 people in all. So, your roommate should pay 5/6 of the light bill! And you should only pay 1/6 of it!

It's pretty easy to split the bill. You would probably need a calculator.

To find how much your roommate should pay for the bill, do this:
(cost of the bill) x (0.83) = (how much your roommate should pay)

To find how much you should pay for the bill, do this:
(cost of the bill) x (0.16) = (how much you should pay)

Hope that helps!

The payment of the light bill should be divided equally between the two adults. I don't think it should matter that she has 4 kids.

However, the food bill and the water bill, for example- I think your roommate should pay more. Her family is eating more food and using more water (showering, bathing, washing). This may also apply to the phone bill unless you both have your own cell phones.
