The Shining.
There's something really terrifying about watching someone going mad.
Apparently Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick disagreed about whether the character was actually seeing ghosts and being "sent" mad or whether it was all in his mind.
King thought it was all paranormal, while Kubrick thought it was internal.
Either way, scary as hell - book and film.

The scariest movies are the ones that are based on fact and with less visual shock to play with your imagination because what you can think of is way scarier than anything you can ever see so here are my top 10.........
1 The Exorcist - the original

6 The Wizard of Oz - those flying monkeys scare me

some say its exorcist, some shinning,saw,omen,childs play and others. but i think a movie been scary is solely dependent on the viewer, for example if am scared of toys i would have said childs play. so in my opinion the there is no particular scariest movie.in my case i enjoy scary movie, and i will say the most interesting one will be the ring.

According to some thing I read in Focus magazine, the most scary film scientifically is "The Shining." I've never seen it.

no one probably will think this is "the scariest" but this movie made me scream out loud and it really scared me and I loved the whole movie. SAW!

The Hypnotic Eye..an old black & white movie ... i think was the scarriest for it's time. The lead actor....who was a hypnotist & performed in front of live audiences.......... would hypnotize his victims to go home & set themselves on fire( made them think the stove was the sink) .... use lye to wash their hair.....and all kinds of other crazy stuff!....that movie was definately nuts!
