1) Be sure you are not running Windows 95, because 95 will never ercognize them

2) If running Windows 98 or ME, be sure you have loaded drivers for the disk

3) If running 2000 or XP (or have drivers for 98/ME), go into the control panel
Click the system icon
Click the hardware tab
Click the Device manger button
Find the section for USB Devices and click the + in front to expand it
Look for a listing for a hard drive or storage device. Right click on it and uninstall it
Uplug and replug the drive and hopefully it will now be detected
(Sometimes if a device was detect in one USB port and then plugged in elsewhere, Windows will get confused and not know where to find it. This clears out the settings and lets it redetect the device)

Generally, install the drivers for the USB device before plugging it in to your computer. Nevertheless, even if you attach your USB device without the software, in Windows, it should recognize that a new device is connected and will prompt you for installation.

If you are using Windows 95, it does not recognize USB.

If none of what I just told you makes you happy, I would recommend going to the product's web site. They should have the latest documentation and drivers for your component.

I hope this helps.
