There are certain pennies out there that are exceptionally rare and you might want to look it up in a collector's guide (probably can find one online pretty easily) to make sure that what you have isn't one of those.
For example, pennies made in the 1940s out of steel (copper was being saved for wiring for wartime purposes), very old indian head pennies, etc.
But, those very tiny exceptions aside, the prior posters are right: it is only worth 1 cent.
But look on the bright side: the ears of wheat on the reverse side where the Lincoln Memorial is today are nice.

I check values of this sort of stuff on eBay. Sorry to say, it looks like not many bidders, if it is a US penny. The highest actual bid was only a few dollars, but that was for a lot of pennies from the 20s.

It depends on who you're asking. Is is a wheat penny? Then you have something worth collecting. Depends on the person how much they think it is worth. Good question.

It would depend on the shape and the type of penny(IndianHead ,wheat, etc) do a yahoo search for coins and see what comes up
