Plenty of hugs and plenty of running around in it wheel or even a hamster ball will wear it out. it seems that they have an obsession with being free..... make up some space for it on the floor with tubes and things to chew... and give it some "hamster time" the little critter will love it....
Make sure you hamster proof any wiring!!!!!
oh! and if you think it's dead - don't bury it for a day or two - it may be hibernating....... I put mine out by the back door to bury it the next day and it wasn't dead......... it lived another year too....

In the wild, hamsters have a huge territory and travel for miles. The tunnel leading to the nest is about 20 feet long. I'm guessing a small box is a bit of a prison sentance.
See if you can get some of that flexible plastic water pipe (like the water board uses) and try to make him some long tunnels, even if they start and end in the cage its got to be better than nothing.
At least get him some wood chews to take out his frustration on, and keep his teeth in trim.

I think hamsters like to chew. I know it helps them keep their teeth from growing too long. Try getting him a new toy or treat to chew on. Maybe he's bored.

Of course not! They just like eating cages. Try putting a miniature cage in with him and watch him go. A bunch of keys or some loose change is a cheaper alternative. Bon Appetite!

Ever ask him?
When I chew frantically at bars I usually want to be somewhere else.
Seriously ask him...

yes. ofcourse they would. nature intended them to live in the wild not caged up but there is nothing u can do about that. and as long as you play with it and give it attention and feed it properly it should be perfectly happy. otherwise it just natural for it to want to get out

as long as you provide food ,water, treats, and toys such as a wheel the hamester should be happy the reason he might be chewing is for his teeth not to get out
