Very good question. A hockey player is Canada was charged with assault in the NHL, so there is a case to be made in professional sports if it was wilful. Especially if the hit is career ending or if it was pretermined ahead of time by several team members of the opposing team.

The reason that lots of news stations are giving for Zidane's outburst is racist remarks make by his "victim". I don't want to justify him headbutting someone, it was a very stupid move. I just feel that I would most likely do the same in that situation. Anger can get the best of you at times, especially in professional sports. People make him out to be a hero because, regardless of his violent actions, he was a great soccer player.

Assault? Are you kidding me? He only bumped the boy in the chest with his head..in fact he put his own life in danger more so than Matterazzi as Zidane could have really hurt his neck. So Matterazzi fell on his bum...boo hoo...no harm no foul...ok so there was a foul but that was for a rules infraction not for assault. Get a grip...two spoiled babies insulted each other and one went down on his *** - rather easily too...wuss. Both players displays unsportsmanlike behavior and neither deserve to have it make international news over the deaths of civilians in war zones.

No, the red card was already worse enough - it happened in these last minutes - of Zidane's career! For the French it was not only winning the WC that's important - the most crucial thing is that Zidane could end his career spectacularly... And that Italian ruined it!

man Zizou is a Legend, i guess u not much of a football (or soccer if ure American) fan, cuz u need to be one to understand wht happens on the ground. have u EVER seen him PLAY. yea his action wasnt right....but have u SEEN the FOOTAGE......forget wht was said between the two.....see Zidane walks away, something makes him turn and THEN headbutts MATERRAZZI and its all exactly after Materrazzi says something to him. HE WILL ALWAYS LIVE AS A HERO IN FOOTBALL! ask anyone from Ronaldo to beckham to any football player. Evryone has a history of bad things its the good things we should look at? afterall no ones perfect dont you AGREE??

Yes! Yes! Yes! The police should be waiting for them (it's not just Zidane) as they leave the grounds.

I don't think so. It's a sport. Plus, Matterazzi provoked him anyway. People get beat up in sports all the time. Have you ever seen American Football? I think practically losing the Cup for his team was bad enough punishment, don't you?
