I have never seen a movie based on a book where the movie turned out to be better. Anything adapted like that is going to lose something in the translation 95% of the time. I think that depends on a few different things, the screen writer, the director and the actors.
I think the only movie I've seen based on a book that was even close was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It wasn't better than the book but it was just as good.

I read the book first, then saw the movie. The movies usually suck compared to the books, even if you see them first. The Da Vinci Code is one of them.
If you take the LOTR and the Harry Potter series and compare them to the book, taking 10 to be as good as or better than the book, I would rate these as 8.5. The da Vinci Code would rate around 5.5 for me.

N.O. It was the worst movie I ever saw. Even Italy said that Da Vinci Code the movie is the worst. The book the best!

The movie is worth seeing, although it does lose a little of it's suspense after having read the book. You know who the bad guy is and what is going to happen, but it is worth going.

Dan Brown did a great job writing this book! Haven't seen the movie though.

i read the book and found the movie very worthwhile. it did leave a bit out, but it really didn't hurt. also, now when i think about the story i have some good (other) visuals to refer to. i especially liked the scene at the end with the pyramid(s). ( i'm getting a chill as i write, now, about those pyramids--that's a "sign" to me, that there's something significant about them, for sure).

The movie was ok, entertaining but not as good as the book. It maybe better to rent than see in the theatre.
