I remember hearing that term a lot when I was growing up, but I haven't heard it for a long time. It can't be that it doesn't happen anymore.

The term changed a while back from clipping to illegal block in the back. It used to be legal to block from the back as long as it wasn't below the waist "CLIPPING". Now, that they've relized spinal injuries can be devastating, there are no legal blocks from the back so the term was changed to "Illegal block fron the back."

Ya gotta be old to remember that one...and I'm old!

The terms "clipping" and "illegal block to the back" are interchangible. "Clipping" is just less commonly used.

Yes. It can also be called "block in the back". The rule of thumb is if you can read the players name on the back of his jersey, dont block him.
