The Koran isn't an explanation. A justification, but not an explanation. WHY do they do it?

It's interesting how this thing about the virgins keeps coming up as an example of what people think about the beliefs of the suicide bombers.
Let's get away from stereotypes - what about the social and political reasons?

The religious interpretations of the Bible and Koran.
If both were exactly the same the powers that be would find another reason to go to war. I don't think anyone thing can be the only cause for the terrorism. The Muslim Radicals are undermanned and under equipped. They are fighting with what they have. It is a shame....It makes them look like cowards. They sneak about without uniforms and you cannot tell who they are. If they were a real army , The US would have blown them all away in a couple of days. With covered faces and the Muslim religion supporting them. Who Knows. I guess they can fight until the last Idiot straps on a bomb to get 13 Virgin Sheep...on the other side.

the Islamic terr is something that doesn't exist in the Koran. but because of the western abuse of there power from before the extremist have an excuse to do there own agendas.
and if u do look at why they resort to terr u will find that even if u cant sympathise with them u can at least understand where they coming from.
it might sound k for us to say that they all are thugs etc but wat u are missing is that they are some 1 father mother sister brother so y do they feel they ned to go and blow them self up there must be a reason.
i think most people just look at the bomb blast and forget the reason behind the choice. for the terr are blowing them self up to create media attention on there cause not to just cause mindless killing.

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm NOT AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So maybe I can give you an answer which has not been fuelled by American propaganda.
Just think about this:
If IRISH people were heroes fighting for their country then whr are Iraqis considered to be villians and Islamic fundamentalists.
Arabs actually respect their religion (most westernerners don't go to church) and it is the most important thing to them in their life and also Al Qaeda is the biggest and therefore most joinable iraqi rebel group.
AL QAEDA WAS FORMED BY THE CIA!
During the cold war the CIA supported and endorsed the Islamic muhajadeen to defend Afghanistan from Russian Inavasion (in 1990). After this, America virtually ignored Afghanistan which led to the rise of the Taliban.
For hundreds of years Arab nations have been reppressed by the west.
Just look at Palestine and Iran (who IS the west to decide what energy Iran can use+Iran can legally make a nuclear bomb if they want)

The killing of innocent civilians in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan etc, is the cause of all this hatred. Bush is the cause of all this hatred and animosity as he think he can rule the world but his day will come. I dint condone suicide bombings and terrorist attacks and certainly ISLAM dint as well so why blame the Muslims. This has been publicly said on numerous occasions so why blame ISLAM.

The real cause of Islamic terrorism is the pent-up anger and frustration with corrupt Islamic society. Remember that the Arabs were the pinnacle of world society in the 14th Century, and have never really been able to cope with their subsequent decline. Rather than turn their energies toward societal reform, it has proven much easier to blame the West for their problems. In various Al Queda manifestoes, you will note that they dream of recapturing Spain and Greece, etc. etc., essentially returning the Islamic world to its glory days.

Misinterpretation of Holy Koran. The holy book is written in Arabic language which is not familiar among most of the world outside Arab countries. The half educated mullah interpret the book as per their mind and desires. Fundamentalism is not bad unless it harms others. No real religion in the world teaches its followers to do harms others.

well I like to use kamikazi pilots from WWII as an example. they were heavily indoctrinated within thier culture to believe in what they were chosen to do and believe that it was a great honor bestowed by thier government. so when the time came they were perfectly willing to do what they had to. you start with a culture thats full of social discontent and you give them a little hope with a lot to undertake and thats what happens. it really doesnt take much for a person to disregard thier own welfare and safety if they think theyre part of something bigger.

It's obvious from your additional details that you already have your own answer to this question, formed from your own opinions. Can I just ask why did you bother asking a question which you already know the answer to, and why are you so shocked that other people hold other views from you? With the greatest of respect, of course.

Let me break it down for you, darlin'. Terrorism isn't just an Islamic thing, it's a horrific situation all the way around, no matter what one's belief system is. Terrorism is basically due to religious zealots preaching hate and using their beliefs to justify murder, rape, hatred, and abuse. Whether someone's a Christian, Muslim, or any other deity; spreading lies, hate, deceit, and anger is no excuse for instrumenting destruction and fear.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. History has repeated itself over and over again. Did you know the Native Americans were called "terrorists" for their hit and run attacks on European "pioneers" who forcibly took their land?
Same thing. Euro encroachment on their home land. In this Iraq war so far U.S. troops with the blessings of our leadership have killed women, children the elderly, raped, murdered and tortured Iraqis. Destroyed homes and business and created an atmosphere of lawlessness. The irony of your question is to the Iraqi..WE ARE TERRORISTS. why not..does murder, rape and torture not make us worthy of the title?
