is it true that america sent an astronaut and a monkey into space together, the monkey's job was to do all the math calculations, take star readings, take care of the life support systems, communications etc. and the american's only orders were "don't forget to feed the monkey"?

Yes, it's probably true. But it was a bit unfair, cos the astronaut was hailed a hero and showered with riches, etc., and all the poor monkey got was a few bananas. I mean, come on...Not even a few peanuts, just bloody bananas!
