sounds like a hard drive failure. nasty stuff because if it truly failed you cannot retrieve the data from it unless you are willing to send it to a disaster recovery firm who charges a fortune.
you may be able to add a new hard drive in addition to the old one, set the old one to be a "slave" (so you can use the new one as the primary one running windows) and then copy data from the bad disc to the new one.
a computer store could assist if you're not technically savvy.

Do you have a laptop? And if so, did the click sound as if it was coming from the main disk drive? There could be a crack in your harddrive. This happened to me awhile ago. If your computer freezes frequently, is running slowly, and if you own a laptop 3+ years this is apparently a common occurence.
Solutions: -Back all your important documents up.
-If the problem turns out to be a harddrive chip, you can
easily get a harddrive replacement
-Make sure to get a second opinion before doing
anything
Good luck!!!

Based on your symptoms it's probably the hard drive. If you have a friend that is good with computers, see if they can take out your hard drive and connect it to a good computer to see if it is bad.
You might even be able to get your computer up and running again if you let it sit for a while and then turn it on again. If you do then it is a good idea to backup important files to some sort of storage device or media (USB drive, CD, DVD, etc.) while it is running.

Just reitterating a point. Your hard drive is more than likely blown. Go to tigerdirect.com, newegg.com, pricegrabber.com, or some site like that and order you a new one (or your local computer repair shop).
