small bedroom - abt 10X10 i would guess. its the furthest room from the furnace and doesnt get any air conditioning. there is a ceiling fan, but would like to cool it some more. any ideas? windows are two tall old ones that cant fit a window a/c without replacing them (not interested, and faces front of house). know of a non-electric dehumidifier called "moisture magnet"? is this toxic? this is a baby's bedroom.

If running another duct is not an option you could remove the old register and use the hole to discharge warm air and condensate water from a portable A/C. You also could mount an old furnace blower in a basement window to put the heat from the portable unit outdoors. You could also cut a hole through the bedroom wall and mount a window A/C in a wall sleeve. A casement-type of window unit won't work? Good luck.

Put the a/c in the window sideways, place carboard/plastic with duct tape in the open area that the a/c doesn't cover.
Place it on the correct side down to make sure the water is leaking from the bottom corner.

If a portable AC unit is out of the question, I'd go for one of those high velocity rotating tower fans. Friends have had those and they work great on circulating air. :)

Run a second duct. Mount the take-off as close to the plenum as possible. Even if your blower and or A/C is undersized, this fix will help.

I would plug in some box fans and paint the room a light colour so it would make it look better. Dark colours will make the room look bigger.

Get one of those units that sits on the floor and just a small vent goes out the window.
