Try this:
I can tell you FOR A FACT, the 95% of the "insurgents" in Iraq are from countries other than Iraq. They come from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Yemen ... just about every country except Iraq. Many speak English very well, and most say the same thing. They have come to Iraq ONLY for the opportunity to kill Americans. With that mindset, there is no talking sense to these people. There is only one thing they understand, and that is the language of firearms, the language of ambush, the language of bombs, the language of death.
We cannot do a lot to influence what or how they think. What we can control to a great degree, though, is the time and place we fight. Our Commander in Chief, President Bush, has chosen now to be the time and Iraq to be the place. It is a decision that the vast majority of people in the military agree with.
If we were not in Iraq fighting these very evil men, many of them would choose to try to come to America to kill Americans. They only want to kill Americans. They go to Iraq because Americans are there, and it is easier for them to get there. If we were not there, they would have no choice but to come to the United States to commit their vile acts.
Who do you think stands a better chance against fighting terrorists? American soldiers who have volunteered to fight them, been trained to fight them and truly understand what needs to be done? Or ordinary American citizens like you and your neighbors?
Where do you think is the better place to fight them? Iraq - where a great many number of terrorists are now concentrated and we can kill many of them at one time? Or in America - where they live amongst us, learn our ways and use that knowledge to kill thousands of us like 9/11?
Make no mistake about it - fighting these terrorists is a necessary evil. If we do not fight them in Iraq now, we would be fighting them in New York tomorrow. Or Los Angeles. Or Houston. Or Topeka. Or Miami.
The men and women of our armed forces see the answer to this question clearly. The their lives on the line on a daily basis so that you don't have to worry about dying in your own community at the hands of terrorists. It is a task we take on gladly because we truly see what is at stake.
Any life lost is an irreplaceable tragedy that will have unknown impact of the US and the world. At the same time, their sacrifice is saving an untold number of innocent lives who simply want to live life to its fullest.
Realize that for every terrorist we fight and kill over there - by men and women who VOLUNTEER to do it - we make this country a little safer for every American citizen over here.
EDIT: As to g's response - I've been there and am going back in October . I have seen this with my own two eyes. So, any unnamed "9/11 report" you can quote, I can tell you the truth.
By the way, I am a conservative Republican, and I put my money where my mouth is. Next time someone asks why Republicans don't go and fight, direct them to me.
And, as hard as you may find this to believe, there are LARGE numbers of Democrats and liberals in the Armed Forces not only serving in Iraq, but deeply believing in the mission, too.
EDIT: tangerine - I can also tell you that Fox News gets it right more often than not when it comes to the war in Iraq. At least they talk about the good that we do there. Watch Fox News carefully. What you WILL see is BOTH sides of every story. For every commentary or analytical piece, you will have someone to voice the opinion of each side. MUCH more than I can say for those "dependable" sources like "ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN."
Again, I have seen it with my own eyes. What do you base your claims on??

For the last time - we have a game plan and are following the game plan. If you don't like the game plan - stop whining that conservatives won't give you a new game plan and present a game plan yourself. Stay & finish the job is the plan. What have the liberals offered? Timetables - so that the enemy can wait and then attack? Cut & Run - so that the enemy can invade Iraq and thwart all the advancements made within their society? We have captured or killed 98% of Al Queda leadership. We have OBL still on the run and hiding. We have killed terrorist #1 (Al Zarqari) in Iraq. Hunderds of wanna be terrorist have been captured since Zarqari's death. The Taliban has been crushed. We were capturing terrorist & supporters of terrorist with Financial & Communication tracking which the NYT has revealed to the enemy. What more do you want or do you just like asking rhetorical questions? I think you are smart and know our gameplan. Come up with your own realistic plan and stop whining about the current plan.

"Iraq caused 9-11" is a great one.. Bush won't even say that...
or that "we are fighting terrorists over there, instead of over here"... why don't we go to a country with major terrorist links like the Sudan, Pakistan or Saudi Arabia? All those countries have 10 times the terror links of Iraq (which is where we have 75 percent of our forces deployed right now)...
therandman: where do you get those facts.. I've never seen many of them anywhere? 98 percent?

Uh, dude, you haven't asked a reasonable question in quite a while, and then you go ranting about conservatives?
So, what facts do you want on terrorism and al Qaeda? I'll be happy to answer any reasonable question, and if you like, I'll cite a valid source.
I offer this freely, but fully expecting you not to take up the offer. I've looked at the list of your questions - not a reasonable one in the bunch.

Of course conservatives have facts on terrorism. These facts are easily obtained and are available in many outlets - whether it be news websites, television news programs, libraries, newspapers, published journals, periodicals, reports, government information, admittance by terrorist organizations, and so on.
I really don't see the point of your question. Conservatives have the same facts liberals do. Retort?

What do you expect? They watch Fox News! A study was conducted a few years ago that proved that people who watched Fox News tended to be more misinformed about the Iraq War than those who depended on ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN for their information.

Weel Joop, all that is available is rhetoric. I heard that Al Qaeda is a small inconsequential group at this point. If this is true, then using its name by the American government or American media is just a ploy to scare us and to make us complicit to the administration's rapacious agenda

What kind of facts would you like? Not that you really want facts anyway, you've already got your mind made up.
