A Zip code is the postal code used by the United States Postal Service (USPS), which always writes ZIP with capital letters. ZIP is an acronym for the Zoning Improvement Plan but was also meant to suggest that mail travels more efficiently (and therefore faster) when senders use it. The basic format consists of five numerical digits.

This is if you are in the U.S. which is where I am from. Not to be confused with AREA code which is the 3 digit number at the beginning of a phone number (123-456-7890).... A ZIP code is the 5 digit number in an address that indicates to the post office what the city is. (This really helps if the person doesn't have good handwriting & you cannot read the city they wrote! I had an ex with chicken scratch for writing!) Here is an example of an address (it'll be goofy) & you'll see the 5 digit number I am talking about:
John Doe
123 Hawthorn Ave.
City, ST 12345
Hope this helped!

It's American English for a postal code. A complete zip code is 5 numerical digits followed by a hyphen followed by 4 additional numerical digits, but it is allowed to just have the first 5 digits (businesses get a discount for using the full zip code).

The purpose of the zip code is to speed up mail delivery. The post office initially ignores the address on your package or envelope and sorts the mail by zip code to send it to the correct distribution center. This is why it is VERY important to use the correct zip code when mailing things.

Zip code divides areas of the US into postal regions.
i.e your city may have 5 different ZIP codes. It helps break down the areas for the postal service.
Basically the same as a Postal Code (Ex2 8PT) for example

It's a five digit code that goes at the very end of an address in the United States. It helps the post office sort mail by location.
