I know just saying it doesn't sound too appealing but I will tell you this from my own experience: I would gladly GLADLY go back to paying the 39% income tax that I had to pay in the 90s to be able to find a job that pays those wages again.

Same jobs are now paying much less.

How come everyone gets this equation: for $12,000 you get a basic car, for $35,000 you can get a much sweeter ride.

Yet most people can't seem to get their heads around this equation: for $1,000 in taxes you can have a society, for $5,000 in taxes you can have a society that works well.

Taxes are the price of civilization, and as with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Conservatives are always talking about tax cuts but never talking about what government services will be eliminated when they no longer collect the money to pay for them. If you cut ALL taxes then maybe the tax whiners will stop whining about paying their share.

Sure, Dog Mama and her ilk would love to cut welfare and similar programs. But when NO taxes are collected you also have to close all the public schools, stop paving the roads, stop repairing the water mains, stop fixing the bridges, stop having police to protect you from the people who used to get welfare but now will have to steal to live, close all the prisons and let those folks out, shut down the EPA and let smog, pollution and environmental damage just run amok. Oh, and yes, you'll have to tell all the soldiers in Iraq to get hitchhiking home cause we have neither the money to pay them nor the money to bring them home.

The Republicans have bankrupted the government. Either you stop spending or you start taxing or it will all come falling down when the Chinese decide to stop lending you money.

BTW: All politicans tax and spend, not just the liberal ones. There is no other way to conduct the business of government. The valid questions are tax whom, by how much and spend on what?

i imagine you're complicated some issues, specially tax prices and the share of everyday taxes paid by technique of the accurate a million%. You look implying that because the tax price has lengthy gone down, the better taxes were paid by technique of the wealthiest and that the decrease in tax price is the reason. in reality, the hollow between the richest and the middle type has been starting to be a great deal over that element. there is quite no records to represent that an insignificant decrease in tax price from 40% to 37% is to blame for that. there are distinctive different monetary aspects in touch, which incorporates a wide change in technologies that allowed many better human beings to enter the rakes of the fabulously wealthy. human beings do not bypass out and earn better money because they're taxed a lot less. It purely doesn't ensue.

Actually, with the oil companies, I believe what she said - as did Bill O'Reilly!! - that the energy bill that gave $6.7 billion in tax breaks to oil companies when they marked the highest profits in the history of the world was wrong-headed.

Not giving tax breaks to oil companies is not the same as taxing oil companies. Now, if you're referring to the windfall tax, even Bill Frist has discussed it.

$20 Billion in profits and $6.7 Billion in tax breaks. You don't think that reaks of an administration bought and paid for by oil companies?

And if you think I'm a "tax-and-spend liberal" (which sounds appealing in comparison to the "cut-tax-and-spend conservatives"), I'm generally for the Fair Tax.

I just don't buy any of the bogus "tax reforms" that Republicans have been making. The "Paris Hilton Relief Tax" (which is just as fair as calling it the "Death Tax") will kill charitable donations and will only help the wealthiest 2% of Americans - none of whom participate on this forum.

By the way, the estate tax was passed signed by a Republican President, who said: “The man of great wealth owes a particular obligation to the State because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government.”

That was Teddy Roosevelt, by the way.

Oh, and Dog Mama? Illegal immigrants don't vote and you're statements are racist.

No I am not behind her plan to raise income tax. Bush lower the taxes on wealth people in the last 5 years. The government recently got hundreds of billions in extra taxes because of this. The wealthy people probably take that $100,000 they were saving and & reinvest which genrating more taxes for the gov.

Nancy Polisi IS a "dumbocrate" - She wants all hard working people to pay more so that the "dumbocrates" can give it away to the people that vote for them. That would be the illegal aliens, the Life Time Welfare Recipients, and those that have children out of wed lock and don't know who "dey baby daddy is".

Now, that's a winning idea. Higher taxes.

As bad as the Republican party is, they've been blessed by having the most inept political opposition ever seen in the history of the world.

Tax oil companies? Did you know that 40% of the public shares of oil companies are held by employee pension plans? So when you attack the oil companies' profits, you decrease the value of these regular peoples' pensions. How nice.
