I have a job right now, but I hate it. I work for explosive, over-emotional people that abuse their employees daily. For example, I did make an unfortunate mistake of sending a RECEIPT to a business address rather than the residential address. The recipient, however, knowing that we performed a service and the cost, did not read it correctly. I was literally cussed out for this.

I'm looking for another job, but the area in which I live is depressed. Does anyone out there have any experience job hunting in depressed areas?

*nod* Since you've already got a job, look into job placement companies. A lot of temp agencies (Robert Half, etc) also do permanent placing. Even if it takes a while, they're likely to be able to find you a position somewhere you can enjoy a lot more than your current position. Keep in mind that the more you enjoy your work, the better you are likely to be at it. Liking your job is not a responsibility; finding a job you like is. :-) It may take a while in a depressed area, but keep your name in the job rosters, and call weekly (depends on agency) to check up with them to keep yourself in their thoughts. ;-)

Sorry to hear about your work. Seems like a lot of bosses are like that anymore. I'm doing odd jobs because there are no regular ones where I'm currently living. The job market tends to die off here about every 12 years or so. I'm soon leaving for another part of the state because of getting a full-time job there. Just stick with it and keep looking. Something will turn up. Good luck in your quest.

Hi,

The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods regardless of your location.

Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.

Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online.

Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.

Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com and it has been very useful to me, please go and check it out!

Good Luck,

Karen
