Lets be honest; most people would have probably done the same thing. If someone wouldn't stop making comments that hurt that bad I would do the same thing (except I know I wouldn't head butt him; I'd probably punch him). Zidane did the right thing; he walked away. If Materazzi wouldn't stop then, Zidane did the right thing. It's not like he didn't apologize to everybody for what he did. Apologizing was a manly thing to do.

If Zidane would've told the officials, they wouldn't have done anything... unless they heard Mazeratti say the things he said about Zidane's family. As of walking away, Zidane did walk away. Then he turned around and headbutted Mazeratti because he wouldn't shut up. Zidane tried to be professional about it, but Mazeratti was too immature to shut up. No doubt trash talking is in sports. The best thing to do is to walk away. Zidane tried but as I said, it failed. Walking away wont always work. As for telling the referees, they wouldn't do anything unless they heard Mazeratti. What are the refs, your mommy? Don't think so. They would say to ignore it, but it didn't work. Mazeratti knows what he did was wrong, and he said Zidane deserved the Golden Ball Award, which Mazeratti won. I read it in Yahoo Sports.

Zidane appologized, but said he had no regrets for what he did. Also, it was the right thing to do because it got Mazeratti to shut the heck up.

L.M.C, any idiot would know that Zidane was trying to make himself look better. It did take some marbles to say sorry. Nobody told him to. I think in a certain way he was sorry.

Yes, Zidane did the right thing. If he'd insult my mother who's ill and call my sister a whore or whtvr then definitely I'd do something about it.

I am Algerian myself, from the same town Zidane is originally from in Algeria, but I find it difficult accepting his behaviour in the World Cup Final. Nothing justifies his violent behaviour, whether it is racial, religious or other kind of verbal abuse. A good professional player must know how to manage their anger and react reponsibly even in the most stressful situations.

The Golden Ball award is not only about who plays best on the pitch. It is also about having good sportsmanship. The Italian player was probably abusive in his language with Zidane; howerver, this doesn't mean Zidane had to be violent to put him back in his place. The best reaction would have been to ignore him and not buy into his provocative behaviour. Unfornately Zidane's respect has gone down in the eyes of Algerian and French Kids who always considered him as their hero. Vive Zidane!! Vive Zizou, Vive l'Algerie, long live Algeria and France, although Zizou has disappointed us

Of course not...but it was funny watching the guy fly off his feet. France was moments away from scoring in overtime...they had so much pressure on Italy and could've ended the game right there. Zidane had the one header saved (an awesome save) and another had hit the post...it was just a matter of time...and even if not...the guy who missed in PK's wasn't a regular...Zidane most likely would've been the fifth guy...no of course he could've ended up missing his too I mean remember Baggio, but you don't lose your cool in your last international match ever and its the World Cup final. He should've been so focused on winning the game that he couldn't even hear what the guy is saying.

Yes, Zidane did absolutely the right thing. If someone does not stop even after two warnings, that was the right thing to do. If I was in his place, I would have kicked him.

NO!!! Oh and by the way saying the words "I'm sorry" don't cut it cause he didn't really mean it. I bet you Zidane's uttered those same words (if in fact that's what Materazzi said) to some other player.
He's just trying to make himself look better...DIDN'T WORK! SORRY ZIZOU! OH WAIT I'M NOT SORRY!

Yes, I agree with you. Anyone is Zidane's shoes would have done the same. He was only defending his family and his integrity, unlike that Mattarazzi dude whose name I can't even spell.

Trash talking is in every level of sports competition. You just take it and dish some out too. Using violence is not the way to react to it. He should have been more professional and realized that he has probably talked trash too during his career, yet no one head butted him in the chest.

Yes, I would've done the same, but maybe in a different way... I also would've apologized to the people who saw it... But I wouldn't regret it.
