The republicans are fighting tooth and nail to get rid of the voting rights act. Maybe they don't think that black people should vote, could that be it? If black people don't vote republican, then maybe they shouldn't vote at all, is that what republicans think these days? Is it because the democrats want the voting rights act? Is that why the republicans are so against it? Maybe people shouldn't vote at all. Why don't we just make Dick Cheney President for life and do away with the rest of the government. Because i guess in republicans minds, voting is not a high priority. You know gay people are getting married. Next thing you know, they will want driver's licenses! Plus, some kids back in the 1960's burned some U.S. flags, lets do something about that. Voting? We don't need that in a democracy, do we?
Have I hit on any of the reasons why the republicans hate the voter’s rights act?

I know but I haven't been able to figure out the reason either.
I'm guessing that they are about to get busted on some of the illegal voter fraud they have been using and if the voting rights act isn't valid there would be no existing law to charge them against. For example, it could be to protect Tom Delay from more charges.
That or the fact that the Supreme Court recently stated some of the redistricting in Texas was unconstitutional based on racism. By not renewing the Voters Rights Act, they probably don't have to fix that.
And the last option that has crossed my mind is that they might just keep debating it until it's too late to renew this term before the election.... meaning they can use not having it for some reason to their advantage this November. Then when they come back into session again, they will probably renew it without even a debate.

. There are only certain provisions the republicans want- your right to vote has never been the issue-one issue is the republicans do not want the 12 million illegals in this country given granted amnesty, another problem is they do not believe our voting areas or ballads should be bilingual but only in English also the new bill would allow non-citizens the right to vote, and felons would have the right to vote. I could keep going but maybe you've cleared that Vail of hate from your eyes long enough to maybe take an actual look at where the problem are and by the way.. The Democrates are refusing to vote once these areas are addressed.I wonder why don't they think we as citizens have more rights in our own country than non-citizens??

The two political parties don't WANT us to vote! Low voter turn-outs increase the chances of incumbents being re-elected so they can continue sucking off the taxpayers' teat!
The Republicans and Democrats have a stranglehold on our political system, allowing them to run ripshod over voter's rights, freedom of choice, and independent elections.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!"
We don't CONTEST the vote, even when there's good reason to suspect that an election (or two) was STOLEN!
If there is reason to believe that Democrats might win a landslide in 2008, count on George W. Bush and a cowardly, incompetent, corrupt, evil U.S. Congress to invent some kind of 'terrorist attack' on U.S. soil so they can declare martial law, claiming that a change in government administration would not be in the best interests of "national security".
Another prediction: There will be NO TROOP WITHDRAWALS from Iraq until Cheney has a rock-solid arrangement in place to take all of Iraq's OIL.
You're right! If the 'Republicrats;' can prevent more citizens from voting, it's in their best interests to do so! Only when we eventually get off the couch, put down the remote, and demand that we take our country back, will anything change.
Meanwhile, they distract us with trivial non-binding resolutions on gay marriage and flag burning just to solidify their political base. Meanwhile, we're pre-occupied with trivial matters such as our maxxed-out credit cards; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000.00 SUVs; Britney Spears' love life; Jacko's pedophilia; professional landscaping for our $350,000 house; "low prices - everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't even need; and the latest rankings of our favorite baseball teams.
We're like lobsters comfortably languishing in a lukewarm pot of warm water: we won't start screaming until the water reaches a boiling point. Then we'll scream in bloody agony over our own apathy and wonder "what the hell happened?"
It's time for a second American Revolution. The Constitution allows us to bear arms against a tyrannical and oppressive government, but we're just too damned comfortable....yet.
Thomas Jefferson once said: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is way overdue! -RKO-

Perhaps it's because race relations today are much improved than they were 41 years ago when the VR Act was first created. Perhaps it's because there is no reason to be so mistrusting any more of how the southern state governments will treat African Americans.

The Republicans (particularly southern Republican Senators) believe it unfairly targets southern states and that the law is antiquated and needs to be revised. Republicans are not statedly opposed to renewing it as a concept.
