I don't know if I can smell rain but, the air gets a different smell when rain is on the way. I know what you mean.

Yes. On some days I can smell the rain. The reason why you can smell rain is because the ground gets heated up by the UV [ultraviolet], or the sun's rays, and that causes the ground to be burning hot and dry.
Then, a few days later, it would start raining, and from the ground being so hot and dry, the rain would moisten and cool off the the pavement or cement. While the ground is cooling, you can smell the rain.
Other times, you might see mist coming from the ground. Don't think it's a fire starting. What you should think is that it's just the ground cooling off.

For some reason i THOUGHT i could smell rain...but i think i was mistaken...u see the smell is not actually rain itself, but the substance the rain has dissolved in: so in this case, i was smelling the dry, golden lands of India....it smelled divine by the way
And there was another time when it was raining and i could smell grass

technically the 'smell' associated with rain is in fact the smell of wet concrete. try this on a warm day go out side and spray the side walk with a lot of water, it will smell like rain!
I lOVE the smell personally.

Yes, I smell rain only when it rains because it smells like sewer water and if you're in the rain long enough, you start to smell like the rain.

yes, I can smell the rain coming. If you live in the country like me the air is so clean and free of awful smells you can actually smell the nature around you.

actually that is a precursor to a storm. It has something to do with the moisture in the air, I'd look it up.
Also some trees turn their leaves up and the temperature will drop somewhat too.
So yea, I can smell it...the animals all seem to know what's up...

I know what you mean. Someone told me we're smelling ozone. I don't know if that's true or not, but it might be.
I love that smell, though, whatever it is. I love the rain.
