Wouldn't it be great if we could have karate or kickboxing in PE classes?

When I was in high school PE was so boring and pointless. I remember one time we had square dancing lessons. I didn't see the point in it. But with Karate kids can learn discipline and self defense.

Schools probably can't afford the insurance, liability, etc. if there is a serious injury, or if someone went ballistic and beat the crap out of a student. Schools could have instructors for basic self-defence. They allow football (serious injury) and even hockey-can be absolutely brutal! But didn't you know, boys and girls: Square dancing teaches us rhythm and social skills...y'ok...

I agree that they need to "revamp" the PE curiculium but waaaaaay back when I was in school the PE teachers usually did double duty as health or science teachers. So they probably had no idea about how to even begin teaching kids something useful. They pretty much let us beat the crap out of each other with plastic hockey sticks and dodge balls.

I agree. I'm a dude, but phys ed SUCKED!!! It was a waste of time. They should replace it with activities that teach discipline. If they offered martial arts back in the day, I would've been glad to learn how to kick the asses of all those kats who picked me last on their teams cause I sucked at B-ball. Well,it wasn't that I sucked, I just was never into that sort of thing!

It's a great idea, but as soon as one kid caught a stray roundhouse there would be lawsuits flying. Schools are so afraid of getting in legal trouble they don't even let kids play tag in some places.

It would be great!!! To learn self-defense, have fun, and exercise at the same time. It would probably cost a lot for the district so that's probably why they don't have it.

Maybe on a self defensive level, but I can see a lot of kids using it for other intentions lol.
