Americans will continue to drive. Some out of laziness. Some because the streets are not bike friendly. Others live in rural areas where it is 20 miles or so just to get to the store.

I live in NYC, and while I don't have a bike (it won't fit in my apartment) I walk everywhere. From work to the store to my girlfriends house, to going out to cocktails with my boyfriend Fridays nights. I only use my car when I am going out of NYC. Many people are dependent]dent on their car, but I am proud to say that I am not one of them. And with the price of gas this day, I don't see why people don't try to use cars less as well.

I would love to, however I live 35 miles from where I work and unfortunately there is no other form of transport for me to get there. I hope that with this gasoline crisis, American government will mandate better mass transport such as trains and busses to help us get around and save money and resources. Another problem is that with the exception of city dwellers, most of our homes are not built around a central town area like they still have in Europe, so car transport is needed to get to most places.

There's just no way. America doesn't have the bike lanes and paths. Pedestrians and bikes are prohibited from overpasses and bridges and a lot of times that is the only way.
What I hope America accomplishes is they will rebuild passenger trains.

if you own a car and are able to afford to put gas in it you should be able to drive it anytime you want. americans are not fat and lazy and if we were, seems to me everybody else is trying to get in to america to take part in what this country has to offer. ( education, jobs, disney world, vegas ect...) i believe we will have some that will bike it, walk it fly it or drive it. it's the american way it's called freedom of choice

gasoline expenditures have no longer something to do with who's president. efficient the elections impact the gasoline expenditures, some months in the previous an election gasoline expenditures decrease to in ordinary words about no longer something, after the election they bypass way up back. so that you're question is irrelevant to Obama and Bush. that they had no longer something to do with how a lot the gasoline costs.
