Hey Kid,

I was initially going to equivocate and suggest that just being yourself is enough -- until I read the answers you'd gotten -- the awful, thoughtless, phobic, hateful answers. I rethought what I was going to write, and what I say now is.

Yes, you should be proud.

Proud that you are an American, that lives in a country where such as those can express their hatred and their religious bigotry and such as we can express our views as well.

Proud that you are a brave, caring, kind person who is also courteous enough to ask if you should be proud. Proud that you can think and that you are strong enough to acknowledge that you are what you were made to be.

And yes, PROUD to be gay. PROUD that you are not the bigot, the hater, the monster that condemns and hurts other. PROUD that you are the one who includes, even when you yourself are excluded.

I've been out since I was 14 -- I've never made a big deal of it, and in the 15 years my partner and I have been together I can count the number of times that we've been treated differently from any other couple on the fingers of one hand.

If the type of hatred that this poor boy endured for asking a simple question is any indicator we are very lucky, and perhaps, as a successful couple with some respect in our community -- we should make more noise -- because sure as **** we're lucky; and for others to be as lucky, ones like us have to speak up now.

As for the biblio-idolatry that reeks from many of these posts along with the bigotry -- sin is harming someone else, and this boy is not talking about hurting anyone -- but you are trying. If you want a good introduction to why I, although a Christian [as in Christ follower] do not believe that the Bible is anything but myth -- and therefore of no consequence in determining morality -- feel free to go to the site I maintain -- its listed in my signature block, and read over the three pages under "Bible" in the menu. it gives you a good introduction to a side you normally won't see in your literalist circles. I doubt that many of you have the courage, but at least the offer is there.

Be proud kid. You deserve it.

Kind thoughts,

Reynolds Jones

PS To those who point out that they are straight and not "proud" -- that was my take, until I started reading the few hateful posts here -- and thinking about what they represented, and then I thought about Iran's execution of gay bois -- and well... certain Christian movements here (Reconstructionism) support the same behavior by Christians. I think maybe just being is not enough, sadly -- thus my post above.

Well,it's not like you achieved something by being gay,is it?You shouldn't be proud, just don't be ashamed.I'm straight, but I must say that I let my inner gay man out.Now sometimes the results of that(fabulous style)can be something to be proud of.People do look at me weird when I say I have an inner gay man,but I think they're just jealous.Hold your head high, but don't turn up your nose.

I think that this is a question that you should answer on your own, but I think that you should be proud, becasue if that makes you who you are then yes, you should take pride in who you are. Why wouldn't you? Im proud of who I am, and so should you. No matter what anyone else says.

No. You should not be gay or proud both are sins. I am not saying anything is wrong with you, your behavior goes against God. You can change with the Lords help, He loves you.

Being gay in the first place is not hardly even normal, and if you have to question whether or not you should be proud, then You need to rethink your sexuality.

No. You should really take your time and observe things around you that should mean the most to you. Learn to be a man according to your forefathers and mother, they put in a lot of work to have you, you just completely threw it away in one lifetime... on what they did over thousands of years. Are you proud of what you did?

Be responsible for your decisions.

Why do you have to be "proud" of your sexuality? Live and let live. There is no need to announce it with "pride". I don't announce my sexuality nor do I feel the need to march in parades about it. Get over it and move on to something more important.

Anyone who tries their best to be a caring human being should be proud of themselves.

I don't think there's anything to be proud of, but it's better than being depressed.
