Some of the crappiest artists in the world can still manage to see their work in print. So chin up! If you are truly interested, I can suggest a message board set up by some friends of mine full of professionals who are always willing to help those who are looking to learn. AS for software, don't sweat that, first work on your book, worry about finding software.
