You didnt mention your age, but I'm guessing you're young so this is probably not an issue. Of course, if you've been sexually active, this is a huge issue.

It sounds like you're a young girl and this is part of your transition to womanhood. Unfortunately, the first few periods will differ several times before they start to become regular with a particular rythme or cycle. Your hormone changes have not fully kicked in but will happen as the months go by.
Should this be a particular problem for you, you can go to your family doctor and discuss the options available to you.

No, it is normal for girls to be irregular for a while before their body gets in sync with your menstrual cycle. It can take anywhere from 3 months to over a year.
If it does worry you, however, you can call your doctor, or a gynecologist.

if you just started your period, it may be a little early to go to the doctor. everybody's body is different (know from own irregular period cycle) but if you do go to the doctor they'll usually run some bloodwork tests, you can also check to see if you have high testosterone levels in your body. but if everything is normal they can put you on the birth control pill to regulate your period.

Yea it's always safe to talk to a doctor because part of their job is to help you by giving you advice, but also they are supposed to keep your secrets too.
