Dell

They are really all about the same. Even with tech support I can say that I have gotten good service from all 3 companies.

From my personal experience, Gateway does better with home and small office users while Dell and Compaq are better at serving larger buisnesses.

It really depends on the features. Personally, It would be a toss up between compaq/HP and DELL. I would definetly stay away from gateway. Dell has poor customer service and support, and its hard to find parts for, and HP/Compaq, is a good value, easily upgradeable, and offer excellent quality. One suggestion that I do have is to stay away from AMD processors. They get too hot, and have a higher failure rate than Intel.

I have used HP, Compaq, worked on dell, HP, Compaq. Gateways,
Dell is the best plus I have gotten good support for it from Dell.
Plus you can order what you want and need on it when ordering.

Right now there is problem going around the compaq (hp) comps..
But yeah if you want to but Intel based compaq then its ok but do not buy Athlon based Compaq as it has some heating problem..
I certainly prefer Dell over Gateway because of the technical and customer support....

Dell, since they basically completely automated the process of manufacturing personal computers have driven the price down to mere pennies on the dollar. It used to be cheaper to build your own but now getting a dell is very economical. Plus they have excellent customer support and will send someone to fix your pc if something goes wrong. A new P4 Dell is about $270 without a monitor. You can also customize your pc on their website.

Also note that the only difference between PC's (besides the specs) are the labels stamped on them. Sort of akin to asking yourself which 100 watt lightbulb you should get (sort of)

A dell. I have it and it works fine. Plus it's cheaper. I heard that gateway is having financial trouble and my go out of business. Compaq is ok but Dell is more common and you can find help for it just about anywhere.
