When i look at magazines all the people seem to be white, asian, or black..And i mean American magazines about American life, or even local magazines. Also, TV shows, say a show about a highschool.. all the kids are white or asian or black..and all of them are americanized... And if there is a hispanic,, or indian person, he speaks perfect english without an accent. That's so fake, cause when i was in highschool there were plenty of my kind who have accents. Why the media doesn't want to portray minorities? Because of this other countries who look at american media think that americans are only people who are White , black or asian and speak with a type of standard english accent. i've had alot of commments by asians who after hearing my accent they are disgusted.. and where are they getting their info?? Well SHOWS AND MEDIA of course!! Shows like "Friends", "Ally Mcbeal".. "90210", etc.. those shows don't include any minorities except asians and blacks.

I know what you mean. There is another show coming up by the creators of "friends" and it's called "the class" and no minority as far as I can see from the ads for it. I guess some people still don't get it that another word for America is "variety".

I think America likes to portray what it feels it wants. No color and perfect english. I mean cause even the Black people portrayed on tv, are like white people, which makes it hard for Black folks to communicate. If the word 'ain't' slips out people automatically assume that you have no intelligence. So no matter what the color, Hispanic, or Black, if you're not white, and being portrayed on tv the media and tv shows are gonna try to make you as white as possible, cause to not have any color would make those shows seem racially biased.

OMG now we are complaining that the minorities we are showing in the media are not even minorities?! Somebody will always be left out or disenfranchised, just leave it alone.

By the way thanks for pretending to look out for the little guy while grouping whites, asians, and blacks into 3 single races (you might as well have said white people, brown people, and yellow people)

What do you mean by "real" minorities? YOu mentioned asian, black, Hispanic? Aren't those real minorities? Or do you just mean someone with an accent?

I've heard it said - and so far found it true - that everything you see or read in the media is true.....except for a particular story of which you have first hand knowledge - where you realize they have it all boogered up.

One could well heed the advice to believe nothing of what they hear and only half of what they see. :>

And this really upsets you? Nothing media related is even close to showing what life is really like. Everyone knows that.

Are you assuming a black person needs to speak getto and be uneducated to actually qualify as black, and a hispanic actually has to steal hubcaps to quality.
