Do you mean Computer Science or Computer Engineering - similar but not quite the same.

1. Familiarity with software - Any base line industry standard softwares (MS Office, Outlook, etc) that would provide you with basic productivity is a good start. Then from there learn about MS Visual Studio and Source control systems (clearcase, vss, perforce) as this will be "staples" of daily work.

2. Familiarity with processes and standards - The book "The Elements of Java Style" are readily used as a base line for code writing (how to format and remark/ comment your code) . "Design Patterns" is also another big industry book.

As for career opportunities, well there are a lot of entry level jobs that will lead you into different specializations. That's up to you to find out during interviews et al.
