I recommend that you read Kathleen Fasanella's blog at http://fashion-incubator.com . She is the author of the book "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing" and her blog is full of answers to questions on how to start a clothing line

You may start by reading the article "Starting a Clothing Line or Apparel Manufacturing Business" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol66/clothing.htm . Do you have a community college close by? At the one near my home, several of the continuing education classes held in the evenings or on weekends are sewing classes. I know you want to do the designing and not the sewing, and I'm not suggesting that you take a sewing class; what I would do is get one of their class guides, look at the types of sewing classes they offer, and call to set up an appointment to talk to one of the instructors who is teaching an advanced class. I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to give you some suggestions, and not charge you for the meeting. They may even know some seamstresses who can help you out,
with or without a pattern. I hope this helps you -- and good luck, your interest in designing is a fabulous field -- you get to be creative with all of your own ideas!
