There will probably never be another war on the scale of the first world wars because warfare has changed essentially it uses the same technicques but the technology is much further advanced so at this point there would be no need to fight on the same scale... plus... where's the idiots willing to fight a war on three fronts?? The countries you have listed aren't exactly the most well suited for that type of enterprise... did you know that Germany during wwII had a hundred percent literacy rate... they were also in the midst of an economic revival... at least up until the end... got to give it to those Germans they were actually stupid enough to believe that they could defeat the US the greates white man blackman teamup since prehistory...

Without looking, I'm wondering how many Bible-beaters have said something like it was prophesied in Revelations, the battle of Armageddon is near and all that other nonsense. If there's a World War III it will be because a nutcase like Bush pushed the button. I can just see Bush now: "hmmm, wonder what this button is for - Rove and Cheney never told me so I'll push it."

satanorsanta-I disagree based on what dragged us into WWII. We were going to sit and watch Europe self destruct under Hitler and not get involved. We got sucker punched and that got us in it whether we wanted to be or not. So if we just sit back, this mess won't stay in the M.E. and even if it was contained to the middle east, it would still effect us and the rest of the world adversely. So we are in it.
As for the actual question: Some would argue that we are in WW III some say this is WW IV. It's global. Stick whatever numerical suffix you wish on it.

The current situation is very upsetting. In the case of Israel vs. Palestine I sincerely hope that we do not get involved. Their argument is much more complex than outing a dictator from power (I'm pro Operation Iraqi freedom btw...).
There is nothing we will ever be able to do to shake their underlying hatred and other countries might misinterpret what our intent is.

If we step in WW III will go happen. If we don't it will just be a huge war in the middle east. I think we are stuck between a rock and a hard place

No, why is everyone expecting this? It's simply a matter of alliances. The world's reordering itself.

Actually it would be WWIV. WWIII was the cold war and we won. Three for three and about to go on four for four.
