Um.. are you talking about the District of Columbia... (also known as Washington D.C), or do you mean ColOmbia the country?

Colombia is a Republic with the executive branch (the president) dominating.. dissimilar to the US government because our government is a Constitution-based federal republic with our democratic rights protected by the Bill of Rights.

I know they are led by a president, but the military is very heavily involved due to the ongoing struggle with the drug lords and Marxist rebels. Disarmament of the rebels has been successful recently and the government is gaining more credibility... i think.. there was a Wall St. Journal article about this... apprx. 3-4weeks ago.
