I have a quick question. Many people have informed me that the soccer championship is not the World Bowl, but rather the World Cup.

So, I stand corrected.

Let me ask you, though, considering a bowl is bigger and better than a cup, should this contest be renamed a World Bowl?

P.S. No, we are not going to rename our football chapmpionship the Super Cup.

What's your opinion - World Cup or World Bowl???

Yeah it should be renamed. How about this name. Soccer's the gayest game in the history of the world championship for the fags. Soccer blows! Why would anyone want to watch a game where the average score is 0-0. When will the rest of the world realize Soccer is lame!?!?!?! Oh by the way thanks for the 2oints

Soccer had it first.

The name "World Cup" is decades old (FIFA used it starting in 1930), and it originally refered to the trophy itself. (Granted, the trophy now has a different official name, but to soccer fans, it's always the World Cup.)

Bowls, on the other hand, are closely associated with American football.

And, I would argue that a cup is bigger than a bowl.

Pop quiz: How many people watched the finals last Sunday? How many people watch the Super Bowl?

Answers? 1.1 billion watched the former. Maybe 200 million watched the latter, the vast majority of which were in the US ONLY.

Not to mention that around a cup, there's a hell of a lot more emotion around a cup than a bowl. And there's a lot more at stake at a cup than a bowl. And there's more teams at a cup than a bowl.

World Diving Championship...until soccer wakes up and gets the action back in the game like it was in the '70s thru '80s. It's all a product of corporate conservatism...too much money = don't risk attacking as too much to lose now as the mentality...hence the World Play Acting Championship would also be good.

It should remain the world cup. I don't think cup is meant to reffer to the shape of the stadium. I believe it reffers to the trophy wich is in the shape of a cup. Awarding a a cup to a champion is an ancient tradition that goes back to kings presenting their bravest and most loyal warriors with gold cups, rings and prized weapons for outstanding feats during the battle. No, leave the cup. Who wants a wood or clay bowl?

World Cup is just fine.

If you rename it World Bowl it will get confused with American Football and we certainly don't want that...thank you very much.

Can't resist inserting a different twist....maybe it should be the World Ball since the award that was given in Germany didn't resemble a bowl or a cup.....

no, it shouldn't. World Cup is fine, and there's no point in changing the name now. World Bowl souns stupid, too much like the Super Bowl.

World cup is better. World Bowl is cheesy and weird.
