The best idea would be to pick something you already feel passionate about. It would be much harder to convince someone of something you don't care about.

socialized health care is a good persuasive topic.
there are many examples of people not receiving treatment because they cannot afford insurance. our wealthy country has an obligation to our own before any other but that is not what is happening.
