seems like a good idea to me. is there some scientific reason why it isn't a possibility? too expensive maybe?

good idea
i'd buy one, except i am single dude don't really need that big of one
in fact, my oven doesn't work, i do all my cooking on stovetop (not very much) and mostly my microwave.
if you time it right, well, i cook eggs in microwave. i was told you couldn't ,they explode, but you watch close and if it starts to pop or snap i stop it... let sit for a few (it keeps cooking for a while after shut off)
if not done enuf, i give it another 10 seconds or so
works great
i only miss making oven fresh pizza, micro pizza not so good, but i go out to eat too

there's no scientific reason not to. The real reason is that microwaves cook differently than ovens. There isn't a good way to make a cake in the microwave. Its all about taste!

It's probably a good idea, but why would any company want to manufacture a microwave/oven when they can now sell you TWO different appliances?
It's kind of like auto manufacturers having the technology to build a safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable car that will last for 500,000 miles or twenty years, but why would they do that when they can - instead - sell you a new car every few years as part of their "planned obsolescence" program?
American manufacturers don't want to sell you products that are cost-efficient, energy-efficient, low-priced, or durable. They want you to buy NEW every few years so they can increase their profit margins.
It's a sure bet oil companies know how to create a much more efficient and cleaner-burning fuel, but what's their incentive to do so? They used to sell a gallon of gas for $1.00; if they earned a 10% profit margin, they made ten cents. Now, they sell that same gallon of gas of $3.00; if they earn the same 10% profit margin, they make thirty cents! Why would they want to sell consumers anything that costs less, lasts longer, and diminishes their fat-cat profits?
I'd almost bet there are combination microwave/ovens in other parts of the world - Europe maybe?

Because microwave cooking is different than conventional cooking. Microwaves heat from the inside out, which isn't always what you want.

Microwaves sort of suck, actually.

You cant cook certain foods in a microwave because they dont have enough water molecules in them

Steak for example cannot be cooked in a microwavr

Also that would be gross
you couldnt have delicious roasted chicken or pies cakes etc

Its scientifically possible but i would have one in my house

Steak can be cooked quite easily in a microwave...but, yeah, it is gross. Chicken comes out rubbery if cooked in a microwave...even reheating it can make it rubbery. Fish stinks up the whole area when microwaved.

As noted, microwaves are very good at reheating food...but they suck for most forms of "cooking."

Well, you can't really cook anything in the microwave - only heat it.
goodbye to crusts and textures.
