I agree with the others, make another doctor appointment. An ENT (ears, nose, throat specialist) will not normally see you without a referral so see your regular physician first. I would call the clinic asap and try to get a same day appointment.
The pressure from the fluid buildup can cause the eardrum to rupture, resulting in drainage of fluid from the ear. The draining of the fluid is more obvious at night because your child is laying down - most likely on one ear or the other and that is helping to drain the fluid.

I would say you definitely need to re-schedule. I would also be asking the doctor about seeing an ENT to possibly place tubes in your child's ears. Re-occuring ear infections can cause damage to their permanent hearing, which may later require them to need speech therapy services. A lot of children do not pull or tug at their ears, my oldest son, NEVER pulled or tugged, however he did have the oozy ears like your child and would occaisionally have a fever. It took 13 ear infections in a 10 month time period before I could convince the military doctors that he needed tubes...plus it knocks their equilibrium off, to where they cannot balance. My son was 15 months old when he finally got tubes, and within two weeks took his first steps. He is now 13, and had to have speech services as well.

Yes, draining from the ear is not normal and something is still going on. Other things to do: Never let him take a bottle while lying flat, always hold him up so that the fluid goes down to his stomach and isn't allowed to back up into the Eustachian tubes, thus causing or keeping an ear infection.

My daughter had this twice, the ooze was as the infection cleared up, after she had her antibiotics the infection went away then the ooze and crusty ear came. Sounds fine to me. Infact, as baby grows you will be able to read him/her really well. if the baby is acting normal nd has no temp then chances are, they are fine.
