It depends on who you're with. If you're with a black person who you think won't mind, then why not?

There is a freedom to do almost anything you wish;but with every action there is an equal reaction. You can say it around a black person who may be mature spiritually but the majority of people-both black and white-aren't that.So there will be a considerable risk if you say this in the wrong company. As far as the arguement/theory that if the word is used often enough it takes the onus off it-that is pure bile! The word was used to be derogatory and it was created-or better yet,used-by a racist and violent people who raped, lynched, and killed hundreds of thousands of blacks who were viewed as property. The term redneck and white trash were created by whites to describe themselves. With the advent of the hip-hop culture the word is thrown around pell-mell and there is a resulting detriment for blacks because others do feel that they too should be able to use the word because blacks do(blacks do you use it as a term of endearment-among and to, other blacks) as it is a paradigmn in the larger culture. Now just as there are words in the dictionary which aren't derogatory,we still use them incorrectly.I have never been called ****** to my face, though I have overheard it from whites(I laughed) and I have been called ****** from across a highway and from a speeding car.Now someone tell me if these people who used it felt that there would be no reprecussion-physical or otherwise.I recommend that you don't use it and blacks shouldn't do it either.Furthermore if people rape, rob, and kill will you want to do it too?Come on,people!Get a clue.

no , i think is funny when some one who isn't black say it . when they talk to their friends but as long as its being used by role models like musicians and they say it like is all good then others would use it too instead of saying dogg, hommie, bro .now the new word is n#!!a. for all razes ... that are into hip pop there is no respect for the word now days specially the ones who listlen to hip pop . most people now days dont care about history the worry about the present and the future . for the new generation n#@!! is a whole new meaning in some ways it went from negative to positive were you have all razes calling each other n@#!!..

i am going to't communicate for black human beings yet i'd guess that they do it because they pick to...and under no circumstances all pick to yet for some it suits into their language and swagger. My version of this may be when I call my acquaintances skanks, ho's, and so on. They understand I propose it in an endearing way. perchance its the way I say it or because they understand i love them. yet its our ingredient that when heard by technique of an interloper should be taken as offensive. base line do not say n**ga, considering I take it you're not from now on black. an similar way my females may kick ur *** in case you called them a skank. Its humorous tho white human beings always ask this question.

I think it's derogatory no matter who says it. I feel that if blacks are so offended by the word when a white person says it why do they refer to themselves by it all the time. I wouldn't go up to a good friend and say "hey what's up you son of a b*itch" I think if blacks want the racism to stop then they should stop helping racists out by calling each other that.

the thing is, if black people are using it casually to take away the negative meaning of the word, white people saying it should lose the negative connotation as well. that's really the point, isn't it? to steal a racist word and make it benign.

by saying white people can't say it, it still allows it to be a "bad word".

No But You Can Say It Around A Black...And Get Ya A$$ Beat

No one should use it. I really don't think blacks should use it either. But, since they do and we can't ask them to stop, they are allowed.

They use it as a term of endearment. They know the meaning but use it very lightly. People other than blacks shouldn't use it because it is a subjective (and objective) noun that imposes inferior status.

Oh hecks no!! Mind you I'm not advocating blacks using the word either. I feel like whoever uses the word actually is one. Wether they are black white or pink. Get me?

As a derogetory term, it is NOT all right for ANYONE to use this term...even 'blacks'...remember that we ALL contribute to the perpetuation of negative terms! I'm quite sure that you can find a word which would be more appropriate.

Freedom of speech just watch what you say...Using the "N" word shows immaturity and portrays a low education level most times.
