Actually the dog that resembles Muttley, is named Mumbly. He was also featured in the cartoon "Laff-a-Lympics" as the team captain. It was during an episode of this show that it was alluded to that Muttley and Mumbly were somehow related, either as brothers or cousins.

You might also be thinking of Mumbles the detective (dog) who hasn't been seen since his stint on the Tom and Jerry/Great Ape show in its original hour long format back when Hanna-Barbera got the rights to produce more T&J cartoons as a consolation prize for loosing their copyright/ownership case against MGM.
But then again, considering that now both H-B and the MGM cartoon characters are now all owned by Warner Brothers...

Smedley! I'm trying to remember the Cartoon name.....ok...just researched....It was Dastardly and Smudley, don't know where I got Smedley from and don't know why it actually comes up with the right cartoon when I search for Smedley!!!
