Is it wrong for an employer to keep hiring a preferred race. What if someone of a different race is more qualified than the race the employer would prefer. I was once interviewed by a company where there are mostly one type of ethnicity(maybe 90%). There was no indication that the type of position or job atmosphere required me to be of a certain race.

I didn't get the job. But now just looking back at it, i was wondering if these people were being racist since I wasn't the same ethnic background.

Yes. It's called racism.

Was it a private employer or a government job? I really don't believe that private employers should be told who they can and cannot hire. Affirmative action served it's purpose, but it's time has passed. If they hire unqualified people based on a racial preference, then their business will suffer while the business of people who hire qualified people from all races will be more prosperous.

Every one seems to think life is supposed to be fair and it just isn't.

happens. legalley they aren't allowed to do that but they can come up with a slew of reasons why you weren't hiring material. depends on your location as well. I worked in pittsburgh for a long time and I was generally the only minority there. they were either mostly black or mostly white. perhaps they would just feel more comfortable around people of the same ethnic background. either way it's bullsh*it and be thankful you didn't get the job

That's why they invented the useless crap called Affirmative Action. It backfired on the white people because of the restrictions that say you have to have a certain percent of you employees black and mexican etc... That's why the Affirmative Action type laws need to be sliced down to simple policies for Unions.

You can like the answer or not, but many if not most people who do the hiring, tend to hire people who look like they do. Depending on your point of view, that could be construed as being raciest... but it doesn't stop it from happening.

I can relate to your story--it's happened to me too. Since you didn't get the job, I'd contact the interviewer and ask what you could have improved on that would have helped you to get the job.
