Syria and Iran hate Isreal. Syria has attacked Isreal in the past because they don't believe Isreal should have a country in the Middle East. Iran is a fundamentalist islamic regime ruled by a fanatical cleric. Khomeni orchestrated the revolution in 79 and the embassy hostage situation. He supports anything anti US. Lebannon gets aid from Syria and Iran (I think) so they refuse to see hezbollah as there problem.

Exactly in the same manner how the US get influenced by Israel's neocons to occupy and invade Iraq, now Iran and Syria are playing the same game for some gains. Iran is probably buying time till they mount their first nuke, while Syria is indirectly engaging its natural enemy because the time is not ready to get their occupied land back.

They both provide financial and logistical support from within the government and outside of the government to terrorist groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and even Al- Quada and probably has intelligence operatives all over the area to see what Israel's moves might be in the future.
