It will take 2-1/2 to 3 tanks. I moved 300 miles away from Memphis and go all the time, and we have a '98 F150. It takes us one full tank of gas to get there, so depending on the year model and how well your engine is performing, that's about how many tanks of gas it will take.

If you avg about 17mpg on the highway you are going to need about 100 gallons for the round trip not including any driving while you are there. With gas at $3. You may be better off flying and renting a car while your there. If you are looking for a road trip make sure you have room on your AMEX!
Enjoy the trip!

The average highway mileage for an F150 is 15mpg. Take 856.25 divided by 15 = 57.08 gallons. Tank is around 15 gallons? On a 15 gallon tank, you would have to fill up 4 times just to get there one way. At an average $2.65/gallon, it would take $152 for a one way trip on gasoline alone.

if you get 20 miles per gallon (an optimistic guess for that model) you'll need 42.5 gallons
to calculate your miles per gallon, do this: fill your tank and write down your miles on your odometer at that time. drive till you're near empty, then fill your tank again and write down how many miles AND how many gallons it took to fill it. subtract the miles to see how far you drove. then do #of miles divided by # of gallons = MPG
