Who cares. . . Thank God for that head butt! It was the only exciting thing in the entire world cup. What a friggen boring sport soccer is. 120 minutes of sissy boys running around and over dramatizing every little trip or fall only to have penalty kicks decide the championship. Every 5 games somebody gets lucky and makes a goal from 40 yards. For every one of these there are 100 shots that come nowhere near the goal. SOCCER IS BORING!!! Thats why there are so many fights in the stands because there is nothing else to do during the lame contests. Maybe put 2 ball in play at the same time? The players are a complete bunch of pusssssiees. Every five minutes the stretcher comes out cause one of these sissy boys skinned his knee. SOCCER IS LAME> > SOCCER IS LAME!

"PARIS — French soccer star Zinedine Zidane apologized for head-butting an Italian opponent during the World Cup final, saying Wednesday that he was provoked by harsh insults about his mother and sister."

This is the truth from the news. Zidane was stupid for over reacting, but THE GAME IS OVER!!! And, Italy still won the game! Okay Zidane was NOT the only player on the team so him being red carded can NOT be the excuse people use for the French losing. Italy had a better goalie.

This is what is being reported in the Italian media:

Materazzi was pulling Zidane's shirt. Zidane sarcastically told Materazzi that he can give him his shirt in the dressing rooms if he cares for it so much. Materazzi replied that Zidane can send his sister that b*tch (quella puttana di tua sorella) with his gear.

Zidane headbutted him.

If everyone headbutted others for so small a thing we'd all have broken ribs. I know I never did. I would get arrested for such an aggression. When it's happened to me I just insulted back or was the better man and ignored the loser. Zidane clearly wasn't the better man on the night.

btw Materazzi did not deny that he mentioned his sister... none of the two are lying. Zidane is just finding excuses for his abysmal lack of self control and acumen

Clearly Zidane is telling the truth. Zidane wanted that world cup more than any other players. Why on earth would he ruin the chance of receiving championship, unless Mattarazi (I can' t spell his name either) said something very cruel and horrific?

Majority of people around the world support Zidane, and sympatize with him. Mattarazi is obviously a cheater and a liar.
I don't believe a word that comes out of his dirty mouth.

"A player is guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for a ball". - Official FIFA Laws of the Game.

Zidane is guilty.

There are no laws pertaining to insults.

They both admitted to exchanging insults.

Italy won. They didn't cheat. They don't deserve to "have the cup taken away". If that were the case, France would appeal to FIFA. Which IS their right. But they won't, because it's not.

Additionally, France couldn't score a goal in play. They had to rely on PK's both against Portugal AND Italy. And Zidane nearly missed it. An inch higher and Italy would have won WITHOUT overtime...

They are both "telling the truth" as they see it... neither will elaborate about what was said on the field, and that's their right...

Materazzi is telling the truth...The truth is that the French can't accept to lose...Materazzi never said things about religion, racism or something like that. He never insults mothers, because his mother died when he was 15 and he almost cries everytime he talkes about it...Zidane is wrong: Mate said something that he hears almost 10 times in a match...You can be insulted, but you don't react like that...Or, not in World Cup final and you're the captain...But you don't like that anyway...

Zidane is a guy thats played football for a long while, hes no stranger to insults, giving them or taking them. What Materazzi said, seems to have been over the top for zizou to react like that! What i'm wondering though is why didn't he give him it right in his cheating face!!!!
