If GW had a (D) beside his name instead of an (R) do you think people would still hate him so much?

Mistersato: FYI, half the country did NOT voter for Kerry. As a matter of fact, more than HALF the country didn't vote at all. So you cannot say that half the country voted for Kerry. You CAN say that almost half of those that DID vote voted for Kerry.

I think a good amount of them would - though I completely disagree with a lot of it, I know a lot of democrats who know the issues and are firm on where they stand on the issues and would have voted for Bush - democrat or republican IF he lined up in agreement with their beliefs on these issues. I do know however some democrats (and yes, it works both ways- there are republicans like this too but for some reason I run across more democrats who are like this) who don't know the issues, don't really care about the issues, believe whatever they hear on tv without doing any research on their own- never listen to a speech or attempt to hear both sides of an argument but would rather be torchered to death than vote republican- I have very little patience with these people - so for these people yes, if Bush were a democrat - they would be all for him no matter what the issues were .

the letter after his name doesn't make an idiot, a genius, except maybe in the mind of the one that wrote this question. why do people so heavily align themselves with "the party". if the RNC put Elmer Fud (you know, the cartoon character that looks a lot like Cheney and carries a shotgun) up for president I'm sure that many republicans would mindlessly vote party line. FYI: I feel the same way towards the mindless lemmings that follow the democratic party line too.

I think not as many Democrats and liberals would hate him, but I do think there would still be a large amount of people on both sides of the aisle that hate him. It's not about his political affiliation, it's about the fact that he's just plain ol' incompetent. Now I know for a fact that if W was a Democrat, every Republican from Florida to Hawaii would be raising a stink about his methods, his poll numbers, and his policies. But you would probably be one of those people that make believe that if he was a Democrat everybody would just go around and praise him for being the best president ever. I think no matter what party your with, incompetence and foolishness speaks for itself, as folks from both parties will attest to.

As about as much as the conservatives would hate Clinton if he were to create world peace. Come on now, don't be a hypocrite. That's the way politics work. Republicans are always going to criticize what the Democrats do and the Democrats are always going to criticize what the Republicans do. Clinton couldn't win with the Republicans and Bush can't win with the Democrats. That's just the way it goes. And it's not likely to change.

Yes.

Look at how they're attacking Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman for his recent conservative positions, and how much they hate Democratic Sen. Zell Miller (who endorsed Bush). And you don't see them frothing at the mouth about GWB's father, who was a moderate.

Liberals hate GWB because of the Iraq war, his assault of civil liberties, his coziness with Enron, Haliburton and other monolithic corporations, his undermining of the wall between church and state, and his arrogant, bullying foreign policies, not because of his party affiliation.

I wonder does the rest of the world know that almost half of this country voted for Kerry? And do they know that only 40% of Americans think he's doing a good job? (In May that perentage was only 31%).

This isn't a valid question. A person can't just be making the same decisions and speak the same rhetoric while being aligned with a different ideology.

Bush would not fit in the Democratic Party because none of his actions or rhetoric is at all compatible with liberal ideology.

For a Dem, he'd be considered a bit too patriotic and conservative. Heck, look at what the neo-Dems are doing to Lieberman, just for saying that the War on Terror was the correct course of action.

From a Rep side, he'd have been hammered for his spending binge and his wishy-washy illegal alien policies. But his supply-side economics policies, his selection of constitutionalist judges, and his efforts to fix Social Security are all good policies. It's a mixed bag.

We have that situation in the UK with a war buddy of GBW's -- a prime minister who leads a leftist party but is himself moving further and further and further to the right. Much of the left detests and despises him. His standing as Labour Party leader only intensifies it.

At the moment, though, it is leading to the utterly bizarre spectacle of the Conservative Party leader making increasingly leftist statments. It's like the world's been turned upside-down.

So here's an answer that's based on experience: ABSOLUTELY YES.

Given his policies and way of thinking, the Democratic Party wouldn't have him. Everything he says, does and thinks is the exact opposite of how Democrats think. And if by some miracle he were a Democrat - I'd become a Republican! (What a horrible thought.)
