SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, operates x-ray equipment in support of the provision of diagnostic and/or therapeutic services to a specified patient population. May prepare and administer various chemical mixtures as appropriate to the nature of the radiology being carried out. May work in a research or clinical environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepares room, calibrates equipment, and prepares medicine and materials as needed for patients undergoing procedures; cleans and disinfects room and equipment.
2. Prepares patient for procedures; explains procedures, transfers patients to equipment, positions patients as appropriate to the specified procedure, and assists patient at end of procedures.
3. Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays; adjusts equipment; determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time; arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient; adjusts lead shield; selects proper film.
4. Observes patient and machine during procedures; reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition.
5. Develops film in accordance with proper photographic techniques.
6. Maintains stock supplies and assists administrators in determining quantities for purchase; performs general office duties such as delivering and retrieving film, recording procedure codes for billing purposes, typing forms, and scheduling patients.
7. May take mobile unit to patient's room or emergency room to perform procedures, as appropriate to the operational context of the specific position.
8. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
