you're a little young for a cell phone to me too, but i'm a parent also. i did finally agree to get my kids a cell, but only a prepaid cell phone to begin with! because i wanted to be sure not to go over the minutes each month on my plan...worked out good for my boys, however my daughter would use hers up the day she got hers. i would let them do little things to make money to pay for more min. too...if you're willing to do this, then ask them about this~ but, you'd have to be willing to do something to earn money too! my daughter would also babysit for extra cash!

Personally I am the mom of a 13yr old, and I feel that for an emergency need, a cell phone is okay. My sons are 11 & 13, they share a pre-paid phone, so if the minutes run out before the month is up, too bad, plus I do not worry about an extra bill. They are not allowed to have it at school ,because it is against the school rules & policies, but for those whose school systems do not object, I would only say to keep it off during school hours, and it's good if by chance you miss the bus, or your ride leaves you behind, then you can call your parents from your cell phone and make them aware of the situation. Like I said, emergency only, and that would be considered an emergency.

First, ask yourself truthfully why you need one (and using the argument that all your friends have one isn't a very good reason).

Second, try and look at it from your parents perspective. Odds are good that they would like you to have a cell phone for security reasons, not for simply talking to your friends 24/7. And keep in mind that cell phone service isn't cheap, and your parents most likely aren't made out of money. That part will probably make more sense to you once you feel the stress of paying bills, putting food on the table, etc.

So, if after thinking long and hard about it you still feel that you "need" a cell phone, perhaps see if your parents would be willing to compromise by perhaps getting a limited cell phone plan with numbers that they pre-program.

Personally, I think too many youngsters have cell phones and don't need them. However, depending on how responsible or mature the individual is and what type of lifestyle they have, a cell phone may be a good idea. It is also good for safety reasons sometimes. For example, if you are walking by yourself, you could even pretend to be talking on the phone. If someone is watching you for any reason, it looks like you are talking to someone and less likely to be approached by a stranger with bad intentions. If you really want a cell phone, first of all, I wouldn't say I wanted one because all my friends have one. That would go you an answer of "no" probably. First of all, offer to pay for it yourself. I don't think your parents should have to pay for something like that just because you want one. Aside from paying for it yourself, I'd also discuss usage with your parents as using it costs money and you don't want to over-use and run up bills you can't pay that your parents would end up being responsible for. I would be open to signing some kind of agreement/contract with your parents regarding usage just so there are guidelines and an understanding. Maybe using it only in certain situations or only for a certain length of time or only until you've reached a certain number of minutes, etc. Whatever your parents and you agree on. Then, if you end up being able to get one, keep your end of the bargain. Be responsible with it. Good Luck.

well, you can start by doing "odd" jobs like babysitting, and convince them any way possible that you are not going to kill them with $200-$300 cell phone bills. If your parents have them, try talking to them to get a family plan where all you guys can talk and stuff.

teens having cell phones is a big popularity contest. when i see teenagers talking on cell phones, thay think they are cool. and those teens that have cell phones, the cell phone bills are probably the national debt (just a figure of speech)

and another thing is, is that when (if) you get a cell, you are going to want to get the newest phone or the latest styles and you will never be happy

Maybe if you help your mother and father, more around the house, keeping your room clean, helping your mom with her choirs, like washing the clothes, mopping the floors etc.. and you could ask your dad, if he would like his car washed, or help him do some work around your house, mow the lawn, help him clean the garage etc..you never know, when your 14th birthday comes, there might be a surprise for you!! You have to do this work, all the time, not just once. Just because your friends have a cell phone, doesn't mean you should have one, show more responsibility, and maybe they would get you one..HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Just wait a couple of days or weeks, cuz maybe there'll be new phones and even BETTER. Just get good grades. And if you just want a cellphone to show-off I'm not on your side.

Get them to buy you a phone that lets THEM track you at any point of time. Tell them about the safety and peace of mind THEY would get from this feature.

i'd get me daughter a cellular telephone by the age of 13 or eighth grade. actually, 9th grade and fantastically if the toddler stroll homestead for school or attend extracurriculm activities. tell your mum and dad for protection reason you desire a telephone, to keep in contact with them. You not in any respect recognize what can ensue for the period of school hours lately.

why don't you get a summer job so you can get your own? like the pre-paid trac fone? they are not the very best but they are a great start for a 13 year old... so go mow a few lawns and do a few extra chores....
