The semifinal match between Italy and Germany was the best game of the 2006 World Cup. It featured two strong teams that pushed each other to the limit for 120 minutes. It was just great football/soccer by both sides.
While I am happy that Italy won the World Cup, I think the Italians were still tired from their previous match which resulted in some tired, sloppy play in the second half. Mind you, the French were playing the same tired, sloppy game despite their numerious attempts to attack the Italian goal. Had both teams been fully rested, I am sure the final would have been the best game.

There were several good games in what was overall a mediocre World Cup. Argentina v Serbia showed how deadly the Argentinians could be when at their best. Spain v France was a classic with end to end action, but i'd say the best game of the whole tournament was probably Germany v Italy. Both sides played with a desire to win and to just get on with the game and it was played at a fantastic pace...Classic. Also, who can forget the Portugal v Holland game....talk about entertainment and it's one of those unforgettable moments where you can remember just exactly what happened....
As for the worst game, there's two. England v Trinidad and Tobago or England v Ecuador were probably the worst England performances i've had the misfortune to see in 5 World Cups. England were a disgrace and were embarrassed by their less illustrious opponents. That's coming from an England fan too.

The best game was Holland vs Portugal because it will go down in history as one of the most controversial games of all time. The ref gave a record 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards and fights could have broke out at any point. Being Dutch, I was extremely angry at the way the ref handled the game and I wished Holland had won.

It's got to be Italy v Germany. Superb attacking football from both sides for 119 mins, then two exquisite goals in the dying minutes. Aah, the beautiful game!

I liked the final Round 1 game between Australia-Croatia. It had drama, and suspense with both teams playing for their Round 2 life. Excellent well played exciting game.

For me it was Spain v. France.
It was an exciting game, one of the few where both teams played offensively. There was a great display of technique from both teams, specially Zidane, and the result of that was 4 goals scored.

None--crappy World Cup because of low scoring and little action. But iif I absolutely must choose one--the opener: Germany 4-Costa Rica 2. After that great start, it went quickly downhill.
