I meet a lot of people who think they are celebrities. Real celebrities are people who have contributed something to our happiness or our well being, given of themselves for the general good. People we can admire and celebrate being on the planet. The word has been hijacked by the media and showbusiness and handed out like sweets. Ask yourself why the person deserves the title.
You can be a fan, of course. Personally I'm a big fan of Dylan. He's the man.

all this business about celebrities gets right up my nose. peoples obsessions re - celebrities,i cannot understand, and what they get up to in their private lives.i have not the slightest interest whatsoever. I cant abide Ant and Dec. Chris tar rant I cannot stand. Jonathon Ross is overpaid. I think there are a lot of sad people around who've got nothing better to do than read all these crappy celebrity magazines.

Celebrity is a very loose term these days.
You should admire someone for what they have acheived, not by how they look or what car they drive or what party they stumbled out of at 4am this moring.
I like Jamie Oliver as your nan would like to meet him, he is very succesful in what he does, owning restaurants in London, he helps underpriveledged people and has led a campaign for healthier eating in Schools.. and if you had a party at your house he be the first one to crack some eggs and get the breakfast going to cure everyones hangover in the morning!

Depends on the celebrity. Paris Hilton? That is wrong. If you like a celebrity for their talent then no, it's not wrong.

No. It's just like liking any other person that you don't know. It's just a little more heart breaking when it comes to celebrities because the chances of us actually meeting them or getting a chance to show them our feelings are slim to none.

I don't think so. The celebrity status thrives on fan following, and if the fans won't be there, the whole system collapses. Besides, what use is the celebrity status without fans

Only if you're some crazy "Fan"atic who can't recognize it's okay to like a celebrity - but not okay to stalk and otherwise push yourself into their lives literally (cards, adoring fan mail, photo-collages on weird websites - much like the nut balls who are into Russell Crowe and Orlando Bloom, etc.)
Cheers

Of course not. That's how they got to be celebrities. But will we still like them when they aren't celebs anymore?

It is when the celebrity becomes nearly the obsession of your life.
