snip a couple of centimetres off the end of the stems, as sometimes they dry out a bit between the florist and you. Then put them in a vase with some flower food, or if you dont have any a teaspoon of sugar in the water will bring them back to life!

Just snip off the dead leaves.

Did you put them in water when you got them? And have you kept them in sunlight or at least gave them sunlight since you got them? Sunflowers always try and lean in to the sun so if they are outside the flower will rotate with the sun as it goes across the horizon.
It could be normal it also depends on how long your son got the flowers before you got them.

Recut the ends under water, place them in vase with water and in the sun. This should help them out.

Id say your flowers need a little water. Try putting them towards the sun, and dissolve an aspirin in the water. If he cut the flowers himself try to cut the stems at an angle to increase water flow. Hope that helps. If all else fails you can dry them and keep them. Dried flowers can make nice arrangements, use them to decorate, or make a scrap book. Some people like making their own potpourri. :)
