If So, What Schools (Mainly in the Chicago Area) Are Good for This Line of Work? Or Should I Just Try Getting in at Some other Entry Level Position and Try To Work My Way Up?? Find a college with a good TV Communications program and, while you're in school, put in applications at all the local stations and try to get some part time work while you're still a student. You may not get to start out as a cameraman, but if you can get a job on the production crew at ALL (maybe just being a "grip" at first....i.e. helping carry around equipment, etc.) then you'll have your foot in the door to learn the other stuff. If you do the college route, you'll also have opportunities for internships where you can learn that stuff as well. You don't HAVE to have a college education, but it wouldn't hurt, especially if you want to go higher than just your local TV station.

Start filming things. Anything. Documentaries, short films with friends, people around town. Invest in a decent camera and a tripod, and just film.
