Just recently I started discovering my singing voice. ( I'm 12) It's not bad at all but it could be better. I want to be a country music singer when I am older and maybe even go on American Idol. But I'm afraid to sing in front of people. Is becoming a country music singer only for people who have dreamed of it there whole lives like Carrie Underwood? Should I just give up my dream ? Do you think I could be a singer? Please help me and give me some ideas and tips to get my confidence up and improve my singing voice. I don't want to join our school choir because the guy teacher is old and can't sing worth a flip. Please help. Thanks -Rachel

Racheal, anybody can sing country. You dont need a good voice to sing country music. Make yourself a cassett, or c.d. with you singing on it,and take it personally to Nashville recording studios and let them listen to it. If they like it they will sign you up with somebody else. As for standing in front of alot of people, start with family and friends first, and keep trying.

How about joining a church choir, or a volunteer group, like 'Up With People'. You could also check and see if you could take voice lessons. Oh, and if you are going to be a singer, you have to sing for young and old people. Country music has been around a lot longer than current popular music. Your teacher may not be able to sing, he doesn't have to. He just has to know how to teach you to sing, and he went to school to learn that. Never turn down an opportunity to learn and improve, especially if it is free.

What a coinicidence! My sister's name is Rachel and she has gone through that same problem. She started getting her courage up by singing around a few very close friends. When they started complimenting her her confidence soared. She attends a small church so she joined their choir. They were terrible by the way and sang old depressing songs but it helped to get her use to being in front of people. After a while her and a friend decided to sing a song together for the church. It was great to see how happy she was after it was over. Now she is competing in competitions all over the place. So try that and check out a couple of websites about the rich and famous. Youll be surprised how many of them were scared to death to. Including Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill!!

That's great honey!!!! You need to maybe take some speech classses in school to help you in front of a crowd since you won't join choir. Next are there any places that give music lessons?? Smetimes they will know of singing lessons, which aren't usually as popular as say guitar lessons. Sing at home all the time singing in front front family will help develop your voice and maybe your confidence once you know you get better. Good luck honey and I'm putting you on my watch list for the next 10 years hope to see ya!!!!!!!

If you want to practice singing, is helpful to listen to great singers (it doesn't matter what genre, but certainly there are a lot of them in Country music). Also, learn about intonation. It is one of the most important things you can master as a singer.

Don't be put off by singing in front of others...usually people are supportive, but I would recommend joining a chorus to get over that fear. It is also important to put yourself in the position of singing in front of others because each time you do it, it will become easier and more familiar. Good luck, and don't quit!

You can be anything you want.Just because you haven't wanted it from birth doesn't mean it's not important to you. You can take voice lessons instead of the school choir. There are lots of avenues.

As many times or as often that it is comfortable, turn your head in a circular motion, both clockwise then counter clockwise. Not both at the same time.

This stretches and strengthens the vocal chords.
If you think you are good, record into a tape recorder and play it back. I did that and I

QUIT!
